Der offene Kamin - Technik und Funktionsweise

Open fireplaces

The classic fireplace must definitely be the open fireplace. For many centuries now, it has been spreading the fascination of fire in living rooms all over the world. The shapes of open fireplaces vary greatly and differ regionally and culturally. The materials used range from very simple loam or plaster right down to highly noble marble or granite. The combustion area is lined with chamotte stones as a rule. A fire grid or two firedogs are used as a "fire place". The pieces of wood are placed on the firedogs and ignited. When the wood has burned away, the firedog can simply be taken out in order to make cleaning easier.

The original

As a rule, open fireplaces are used as so-called effect fires. The heating is secondary. The heat is only passed on as radiated heat via the combustion area opening. If the heating benefit is not in the foreground, an open fireplace provides you with a fire which cannot be any more natural. As an alternative to fuelling with timber, there is the possibility of placing a gas-block fire or an electric fire with a deceptively genuine looking artificial flame in the combustion area. The gas-block fire can optionally be run with natural or with liquid gas.
